Some Minnesotans in midst of snowstorm are 'ready for spring'

Heavy snow moves in with gusty winds Monday night through Tuesday, followed by colder air.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — As of dinner time on Monday, some people living in St. Cloud reported about 1.25" of snow. Meteorologists are reporting as many as six inches could fall through Tuesday.

Snow plows lined Highway 75 and 22nd Street South, ready to clear what little snow had already fallen, while some neighbors were busy already shoveling sidewalks.

"Yes, it's a lot of work," said Nacio, who didn't want to give his last name. "I feel good because people can walk through, you know, and walk their dogs."

Mark Scheibelhut conducts business about 60 miles northwest of St. Cloud in Alexandria where snow is falling more swiftly.

"They had to deal with a foot of snow already when we had just a dusting down here," said Scheibelhut.

Weather reports further west in North Dakota show at least eight inches of snow had fallen in southern parts of the state since Monday morning. Winds are also gusting upwards of 40 miles per hour.

The area around Fargo is seeing reduced visibility and tough road conditions. The winter has been particularly tough with more than 10 blizzard warnings already issued so far.

Areas up north, like Duluth, are expecting up to 17 inches of snow through Tuesday. The Superior Police Department posted pictures on Facebook warning of white out conditions that led to a seven-car pile-up on a local bridge.

Closer to home, Scheibelhut says he doesn't particularly enjoy snow blowing and is ready for spring.

"I’m ready for spring," said Scheibelhut. "If we can escape with six inches or eight inches, I'll be happy, but it's Minnesota, what do you expect."

The snow wraps up before daybreak Wednesday and behind it comes much chillier temperatures.
