Nate's Overnight

Remember When? Our timeless front lobby...

11:51 AM, Jul 25, 2011

As far as design and fashion goes, it's often said that history repeats itself. The trends, the fads, what's cool and what's not. The decor and design in the front lobby of our KARE 11 Studios wouldn't necessarily be called "modern", but we think it's hip looking.

Remember When: Familiar faces from 1992

6:29 AM, Jul 17, 2011

It's hard to imagine the 1990's so far behind us. Looking back almost 20 years, Disney's Aladdin topped the box office, America's largest mall opened in Bloomington, and Johnny Carson hosted The Tonight Show for the last time. The year was 1992. Here is a look back at a promotional photo of our evening anchor team. Some of the faces should look familiar.

Tuesday's Pic: Spring Tease

5:04 PM, Feb 22, 2011

It was just a week ago that Minneapolis was flirting with 50 degree temperatures. That's nothing new with a Minnesota winter.

Tuesday's Pic: A look up from center ice

1:27 AM, Feb 15, 2011

This week's photo is both extremely specific and perhaps a little random. I try and bring you photos that you haven't seen before, a look at something that I get to see through my eyes. Off to Saint Paul, for those who were wondering what it would look like if you found yourself laying down at center ice at the Xcel Energy Center?

Tuesday's Pic - Crows A Crowd

3:37 PM, Feb 1, 2011

File this under, "Another weird night in Minneapolis." Monday night, I was out patrolling and checking out a possible stabbing outside of downtown. The weather was mild compared to the last few weeks, it felt like light jacket weather.

Remember When? 'Get upstairs!'

5:15 AM, Jan 27, 2011

Remember when? Simple changes have made huge improvements to our friends upstairs at KARE 11. We're lucky to have the

One of those nights... Cardboard Perk

3:10 PM, Jan 24, 2011

It's no secret that I love chasing news overnight. Although the graveyard shift can be difficult at times, the biggest downfall occurs on slow news nights. You can spend hours driving around checking out police scanner traffic and keep coming up empty handed. Some nights you're just hoping something will break.

Tuesday's Pic- Starry Night in Manhattan

3:20 PM, Oct 26, 2010

Back in September I was in New York and visited the Museum of Modern Art located downtown Manhattan. There are thousands of paintings and sculptures from over 70,000 artists, but there was only one painting I wanted to see before I left town, Starry Night.

Tuesday's Pic- History in Arlington...

4:17 AM, Oct 13, 2010

Washington D.C. is quickly becoming a favorite destination of mine.   It seems like you can stand at any given corner and spot a museum, a statue of an American Hero, something I know I've seen in a textbook somewhere.  The streets are full of history.  It's hard to count all the world leaders and individuals that have changed the world from this town.

Picture perfect! Union Station in D.C.

1:36 PM, Oct 8, 2010

While working last month I had an opportunity to travel by train from Washington D.C. to New York City. This would be my first experience riding on a train. I would recommend it to everyone. It was a beautiful ride with amazing looking scenery to follow.

Remember When?- A look back @ 11's history...

5:57 AM, Sep 21, 2010

I'll be posting photos and different items sampling the long history that sits within our studios here in Golden Valley. Dating back to the early 1970's when the station was built...

Tuesday's Pic- Seasons' of change...

12:36 AM, Sep 8, 2010

In the past couple of weeks the metro area has experienced some highs and lows in the weather department.  To start off the 2010 Minnesota State Fair, we had temps reaching the 90 degree mark; nothing out of the ordinary.  But what followed as the fair lights went to black is a reminder from Mother Nature that she's in control of our seasons change.

Tuesday's Pic- One photo goes a long way...

1:26 AM, Aug 10, 2010

Talk about a shameless plug! It's not often I find my photos in publications. To my surprise, professionally, July turned out to be a great month for me. Last fall I submitted a picture I took at Lake Ann Park in Chanhassen. It was the only day I ended up shooting fall colors.

Who's the little guy in the mask?

3:53 AM, Aug 6, 2010

It can get a little lonely on the overnight shift, Saturday nights especially. Only four people are in the building after news time is over.

Remember When? Super stars behind the camera...

1:25 PM, Aug 3, 2010

We are proud of the star studded photo staff that calls KARE 11 home. As part of that special family, when I was asked to help out on the new NPPA Station of the Year team photo, I gladly accepted. There are 31 of us, consisting of photojournalist and editors, many who have been recognized nationally for their work.

Tuesday's Pic- 30 years ago today...

3:20 AM, Jul 28, 2010

So here it is, the BIG 30! For the most part I celebrated my 30th birthday with close friends and kept it low key, just how I like it. I've never been a big birthday guy. I never wanted a party or anything like that. I like to keep it simple and I think this year went pretty well. It's nice talking with friends about "the good ol' days"... The older I get the faster time goes by.

Tuesday's Pic- Light show!

9:24 AM, Jul 1, 2010

There is no better way to officially start summer then with a good ol' fashion thunderstorm! I think we all love a nice storm once and awhile. Saying that, I don't think we've deserved some of the severe weather that's hit the upper midwest. Tornado warnings have been the norm over the past few weeks.

Tuesday's Pic- Hey Moe!

9:38 PM, Jun 21, 2010

Last week Jeff Olsen and I headed out west to Waverly, Minnesota to visit Goldview Farms. We were previewing an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for $2, where you meet the animals at a petting zoo and enjoy a range of rides, activities, tours and games

Tuesday's Pic- Rain Rain Rain...

4:12 AM, Jun 16, 2010

As much as I love the rainy weather, it's getting to be a bit much. It's been well over a couple weeks of this off and on rain showers and cooler temps we would usually see in early May.

Remember When? Exterior of WTCN to KARE...

12:26 AM, Jun 1, 2010

Change can sometimes be a good thing, it all depends on what the focus is. I took this photo early Sunday morning as the sun was coming up. I took a copy of the original picture with me so I could park my newscar in the same area as it was parked in the 1970's photo
