"We have all been given special gifts; it's our duty to share them with others."
Mitch Brecto has been described as a dozen volunteers in one, and that may be an understatement! Over the past 10 years Mitch has been involved with nearly every service The Salvation Army has available. He has served as a mentor, a teacher, a coordinator, a driver, a bell ringer, and the list goes on. However, his most rewarding experience has been working with inmates and their families, especially during the holidays.
With the amount of time Mitch spends with The Salvation Army, you wouldn't think he'd have time for much else. That couldn't be farther from the truth. For the last decade he has also been a volunteer at the Minnesota Zoo. His responsibilities at the Zoo are equally diverse and his knowledge of the animals can rival that of any Zoologist. In 2004, Mitch was selected as the Zoo's Volunteer of the Year.
Many find volunteering a life changing experience, but Mitch can truly say that volunteering changed his life forever. He met his wife Teri while volunteering with The Salvation Army!
