"Some people retire feeling like they did a lot. Then they sit around and do nothing."

But Bob Jenkins is not one of them. Each week you'll find him befriending children at the Children's Home Society Cedar Riverside Child Care Center. He's so well liked that he's simply referred to as "Grandpa Bob."

For ten years, Grandpa Bob has looked after children between the ages of two and five. He reads to them. He takes them to the playground. He even goes sledding or swimming on occasion.

"I get my energy from kids," Grandpa Bob says. "I tell them, 'You can be who you want to be.'"

Many of the children he works with are immigrants who may not have a strong grasp of the English language or American customs. Grandpa Bob patiently works with them to build confidence and self-esteem.

Grandpa Bob says volunteering will keep you young at heart. And it'll keep you from sitting around doing nothing.

Robert has designated $1100 to be divided between Children's Cancer Research Fund and United Negro College Fund.
