Spent the weekend in Chicago for the Vikings game. On the flight down Saturday I ran into several Vikings fans who made it known that they were ready to get rowdy in the windy city.
Later that night, I ran into some of those same folks in the hotel lobby. I checked into the hotel, which incidentally, is the same one the Vikings stay in on Michigan Avenue. We talked further, and they were cool dudes. Filled with fire and energy.
I headed up to my room on the 12th floor and eventually got ready for dinner. I was meeting a couple friends in the lobby at 8pm sharp, and it was just about 8.
I got into the elevator and immediately recognized the sole man standing next to me. It was Head Coach Brad Childress. We exchanged pleasantries, and I pushed the button for the lobby. He was heading to the 3rd Floor Conference rooms where he presumably had a team meeting.
The elevator stopped on the 8th floor, and immediately filled the silent elevator with a familiar fire and energy.
"PERK! Dude what are you doing?!!! Stalking us?!!! Oh Man!..." They were filled with even more zeal than before. As they bounded onto the elevator, yapping away, they immediately noticed the stoic coach standing straight faced and straight laced, in the corner.
Immediately they froze up. I no longer existed. They were downright stunned.
The elevator reached the 3rd floor and as the coach walked off, the guys finally got the nerve to utter, "Good Luck Coach".
As soon as the doors closed again, the rowdiness was back at an even higher volume. "Dude! What are the odds! I can't believe that!.... and on and on.
Those guys were cool. They cracked me up. Too bad they saw such a crummy game.
