Got a chance to take part in this weekend's 93x Rock n' Jock Softball Game. Randy Shaver and the radio's morning crew played host.
Always good to see Shave with his hair down...even though his hair never moves. He had a great time at this 2nd year tourney that raises money for his Cancer Research Fund.
Good to see some fun characters out there too. Guys like Mark Parrish of the Minnesota Wild. That dude can crush the ball! Vikings punter Chris Kluwe can mash too. He and Parrish had a Home Run Derby afterwards. Parrish won 5-4.
Former Twin great Al Newman was our 3rd base coach. He gave me an inspiring pep talk before my 2nd at-bat. I proceeded to whack one to the fence in left center. Couldn't let Al down.
After I scored, I hurried out of the Stadium in White Bear Lake, and raced back to the station to anchor the 5pm show.
Which brings me to the question. And it's a question I get a lot these days. When is Shaver coming back? Is he o.k.?
The answers. Wednesday and yes.
Shave has been at KARE for a long time, as most of you know, so he accrues a lot of well deserved vacation time.
He also works a lot of extra days during football season, so come summer, he spends a lot of good quality time with the fam. But fret not. He'll be back just in time for the Vikes reporting to Mankato. Wow, is it really that time of year?
Actually, I don't mind the inquiries about Randy's status. It keeps me from having to answer questions about Belinda's pregnancy. That's a whole other blog.
