NEW YORK - Ah, the pitfalls of live television.
During an appearance on the fourth hour of NBC's Today show with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, octogenarian actress Elaine Stritch committed a big no-no.
She dropped the F-bomb.
Stritch was on to promote her new documentary Shoot Me, when Gifford mentioned that Stritch is well known for saying whatever comes to mind.
"You are so beloved — of course for your work, but as much for your mouth," Gifford gushed. "You say whatever you want to say."
Stritch, 89, said her famous mouth is no big deal.
"If you just say things naturally, it's fine." And, as if to prove her point, she added, "You know, they just think in (bleep)."
The uncensored mishap sent the co-hosts into a tizzy, as Gifford exclaimed "Oh, dear!" and Kotb nervously shuffled her note cards.
Stritch, cool as a cucumber, replied, "No, I meant a serious point by that!"
