FOREST LAKE, Minn. - On Tuesday, hundreds of Forest Lake students walked out of class to protest the recent city council to disband the police department.
Students from both the middle and high school marched out at 1:15 p.m. and headed to City Hall, where they chanted "FLPD!" outside the city council chambers.
About an hour later, students made their way into the council chambers where they continued their protest.
The following day, Forest Lake Police officers unanimously voted to accept a new labor deal with the city. The agreement is still subject to city council ratification next week.
It's not known what exactly prompted the agreement, but the students KARE 11's Jana Shortal spoke to feel satisfied with the result. She spoke to them about what they did and why they did it.
