June is National Adopt a Cat Month! Chuck & Don's has some tips on inviting a furry feline friend into your home.
Cat Adoption 101
• Cats are very territorial and can get overwhelmed when moving to a new place. To make the transition a bit easier, dedicate an area for your cat to have to itself for the first few weeks.
• Set up a feeding station with food and water bowls in your home. Keep this separate from the litter box if possible, and your cat will be happy.
• A cat’s claws need to be worn down, and they do this by scratching on things. Set up an acceptable scratching station for your cat, to avoid them clawing on your furniture.
• When introducing a new cat to other pets at home, give them plenty of time to get acclimated to each other. It’s best practice to keep your new cat in a separate room so the other animals in the house can sniff under the door for the first several days.
