GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The IRS recently announced they would begin assigning some old debts to private tax collectors.
This flies in the face of advice both Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the IRS have given out for years: “The IRS will never contact you by phone.”
The BBB of Minnesota and North Dakota wants people to know what to expect and what to watch out for.
They say no one is going to call threatening with arrest. If they do, it’s a scam. Debt collectors will still have to abide by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
