GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A season normally filled with warmth can be downright cold for those who don't even own a blanket to keep the heat in.
A partnership between Twin Cities based Bridging Inc. and SUBWAY® is attempting to change that.
On Sunday, December 4, 2011, participating local SUBWAY® restaurants are partnering with Bridging to collect blankets that will be given away to individuals and families in need.
Bridging Inc. founder Fran Heitzman appeared on the KARE 11 Today Show Thursday to explain the program.
A Bloomington-based non-profit, Bridging gives away more than 7,000 beds annually, but are always short of blankets to accompany them.
Now in its ninth year, the SUBWAY® Bring a Blanket program is the primary way Bridging secures blankets for distribution, to the nearly 5,000 local families it serves each year.
To contribute to SUBWAY® Bring a Blanket, individuals are asked to bring new or gently used, clean blankets to any participating SUBWAY® restaurant.
In return for their donation, contributors will receive a free, regular six-inch SUBWAY® sandwich (one free regular six-inch sandwich per person, regardless of the number of blankets donated).
Especially needed are blankets that fit full and queen size beds.
