NOW Medical weighed its 6,750th person Saturday in the Health Fair 11 building at the 2009 Minnesota State Fair. That person tipped the scales at 1 million pounds. Representatives from the metro-wide medical clinic network were weighing approximately 33,000 pounds per hour at a rate of 3 people per minute.

Patrick Nelson, 16 of Minnetonka was the lucky 1 millionth pound. Patrick and two of his high school friends came to the HealthFair11 building ironically after feasting on Sweet Martha Cookies. "It's pretty exciting to be the millionth pound," exclaimed Nelson.

Getting weighed is a State Fair tradition going back several years. In 2008, NOW Medical weighed over 25,000 people at the Fair exceeding 4 million pounds.

The scale is provided and calibrated by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Weights and Measures Division. "We have partnered with NOW Medical to offer the weight service in the Health Fair 11 building because weight management is such an important tie-in to the other health related services offered there," noted Bill Walsh of the Weights and Measures Division.
