GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. – Americans consume a whopping 1.25 billion chicken wings on Super Bowl Sunday. Probably not the healthiest option, but there's no need to serve celery and carrots at your game day celebration.
Fitness expert, Ali Holman, came by KARE Saturday with some easy, good-for-you appetizers.
1. 7 layer dip in a cup:
Take individual plastic cups, layer hummus, guacamole, Greek yogurt, diced tomatoes, black beans, green onions and pinch of cheese.
2. CoreCamper peanut butter protein balls:
In a bowl, combine natural peanut butter, honey, oats, protein powder and dark chocolate Chips. Form into balls and refrigerate one hour.
3. Zucchini pizza bites:
Slice zucchini into 1/2" thick circles. Add tomato sauce, cheese, chopped turkey and pepperoni. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes and serve.
• 6 cups of fresh cauliflower florets
• 2 teaspoons garlic powder
• a pinch of salt
• a pinch of pepper
• 1 tablespoon butter, melted
• ¾ cup Frank's RedHot hot sauce
Preheat oven to 450 degrees and place cauliflower on a baking sheet and spray with cooking oil, or olive oil.
Sprinkle garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the cauliflower florets.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Combine the melted butter and hot sauce in a small bowl and pour over the cauliflower florets and bake for 5 minutes.
Serve with plain Greek yogurt with a splash of Frank's.
5. Chocolate covered chips:
Skip the high-calorie chips and substitute with a popped chip. Dip in dark chocolate, refrigerate.
