GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Many parents understand the importance of setting clear limits for children and using appropriate consequences when children overstep those limits.
But is that enough to help kids be accountable for their actions?
Developmental psychologist Dr. Marti Erickson, co-host of Mom Enough, appeared on KARE 11 to share some practical tips on helping children develop the important quality of personal accountability.
Her tips include:
• Have a “no excuses” policy
• Be empathic and calm
• Expect children to admit and apologize
• Engage children in deciding how to make restitution
