GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The weather is hot, and that means your drinks should be cool. With the summer ahead, who doesn’t want more reasons to make some margaritas?
Chef Mauricio from Cantina Laredo joined the KARE 11 News at 4 to serve up a fresh spin on the classic margarita to try at home and some fun ideas for jazzing it up.
3/4 cup tequila
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup Triple Sec or Cointreau
1 lime, sliced
kosher salt (optional)
1. In a medium pitcher, combine the tequila, lime juice, Triple Sec, and 1/2 cup water.
2. If desired, rub the rims of 4 glasses with a lime slice and dip in salt to coat. Serve the margaritas in the prepared glasses over ice and garnish with the lime slices.
Directions to switch it up
• Adding cucumber to a classic margarita can definitely increase its refreshing quality. The key to making this work well is to soak the cucumber in cucumber-infused tequila. This will alter the flavor of your main liquor for ultimate taste throughout the cocktail.
• Adding some lavender flavor to your margarita is a great way to make it extra smooth. You can rub glass rims with lime and dip the rim in lavender sugar or salt. Add a lavender sprig for garnish! Balance this added flavor with berries like raspberries and blueberries.
• Adding a blood orange twist to your margarita is simple yet effective. Mix some blood orange juice into the lime juice and tequila and although time to chill, at least thirty minutes. When you add the ice, the blood orange flavor will be fully incorporated into the cocktail.
