Grow with KARE: Seed starting 101
MINNEAPOLIS -- Bobby and I spent some time shopping the seed packet aisles last week....it can get very exciting to think of planting right now after this long winter, but timing is the most important part.
We centered our attention on vegetables and split them up to the cold crops, warm crops, and ones that you should not start inside just put them in the ground directly.
Bobby told us about how look at your calendar and know your last frost date for your area. The cold crops can take a frosty night so you can start them this month and get them in as soon as the gardens are ready. The warm crops Bobby believes really shouldn't go in the garden until late May into early June. The ground just typically isn't warm enough to get anything going until then. With that said you have to stagger your start times depending on when you feel comfortable putting them out.
