EDINA, Minn. - To divide, or not to divide: That is the question! This is still a good time to divide perennials but not all of them.

The first question to ask is how you know if the perennial needs to split. If the perennial is dying out in the middle and growing only on the edges, then it is a good time to split them. If your plant had fewer or smaller flowers this year than in past years, it also might need to be split. Splitting the perennials really rejuvenates aging plants and may extend their life span in the garden.

The University of Minnesota Extension Service has an extensive guide to which perennials need to be split and when.

The weather looks great Saturday to still get some gardening done with highs in the mid 50s. I want to thanks Julie Nelson for providing some GREAT examples of perennials that really need to be split!
