CHASKA, Minn. - The 11th Annual Road Salt Symposium was held earlier this month at the Landscape Arboretum.
Companies, cities, and environmental groups gathered to exchange information and honor groups that have done a great job to reduce road salt.
New research is showing that salt permanently pollutes waterways.
Once in the water, there is no way to remove the chloride, and it takes only one teaspon of road salt to permanently pollute five gallons of water.
The program goal is to educate applicators within watersheds so that they can reduce or eliminate chloride applications.
