Spring into spring with Heidi Heiland's go green tips

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Managing bees, chickens and vegetable gardens may seem overwhelming as there are so many ways to approach living lightly on the land. Heidi Heiland of Heidi's Lifestyle Gardens joined KARE 11 News @4 to share some of her thoughts regarding living green and using local companies to help us with our lifestyles.

Here are some of Heidi's favorites:

Gronomics planted its roots in 2008, starting out when Mike Rivard, the owner decided to build an elevated garden planter for his grandfather who was in a wheelchair. Over the next few years the line grew to include raised beds, elevated garden beds, and a variety of innovated gardening products and gardening accessories. In 2013 they expanded the line and now offer outdoor furniture, games and chicken coops. The product line is sold at garden centers and e-commerce sites across the country.

Many of the products are portable, handicap accessible and are suitable for balconies, backyards, patios and much more. The products are made of 100 percent Western Red Cedar and majority of the products offer tool-free assembly.

When is comes to bees, the Bee Squad will help beekeepers and the community in the Twin Cities area foster healthy bee populations and pollinate landscapes through education and hands-on mentorship.

Inspired by Dr. Marla Spivak at the University of Minnesota, the Bee Squad is committed to bringing back a bee friendly world by educating, training, and assisting people engaged in helping bees thrive. By promoting awareness about the critical contribution of pollinators to nutritious foods and a green environment, the Bee Squad helps people make choices that are good for the bees and ultimately good for us all.

Established in 2010, the Beez Kneez, is a honeybee education organization that delivers raw, local honey by bicycle, provides in-hive education classes at Twin Cities community gardens, parks, school and urban farms.
