ANOKA, Minn- In April, Melissa Lavan and her daughter moved to Anoka from Chicago.
Many people know how tough it can be to make friends when you are new in town. Lavan said her daughter, Angelina, has an added challenge. When she was two, Angelina was diagnosed with apraxia of speech. Children with the condition don't perform normally because the brain has difficulty directing or coordinating the movements.
Thursday Lavan's daughter, Angelina, turns six.
For her birthday, Angelina told her parents she only wanted someone to play with at the park.
Now, Lavan is turning to social media for help with her daughter's birthday party planned for Saturday at Mississippi River Park, 2825 Cutters Grove Ave. This, after she said no one responded invitations she sent to parents at her daughters summer school.
"I am Inviting anybody and everybody that doesn't have plans and wants to come fulfill her birthday wish," she said. "Not many five-year-olds or six-year-olds ask for non-materialistic birthday presents. I am trying to get as many kids as possible to join us in celebrating her birthday Come have fun and play."
The party starts at 3 p.m.
