Heidi Heiland shares floral decorating tips

Master Gardener Heidi Heiland offers tips for tying floral bows.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The growing season outdoors may be on ice until spring, but Master Gardener Heidi Heiland from GrowHausMN.com has some great ways to keep those "green thumbs" busy. Check out her recipe for floral bow.

How to tie a Floral Bow:
1. Select a high quality ribbon with wire on the sides, either 2” or 4” in width
2. Hold ribbon in-between your thumb and forefinger
3. Determine the tail length for your bow and twist the ribbon at this point
4. Make a loop (making sure not to make the loop too large and floppy) and give the ribbon a twist
5. Continue making same-size loops in this way until you are half way through making all of the loops (after 2 loops for a 4 loop bow, after 3 loops for a 6 loop bow)
6. Make a smaller loop in the middle for the center knot. This will cover the wire that ties the bow together
7. Continue making same-size loops in this way until you have equal loops on each side
8. String a stick of 22 gauge wire half way through the center loop and twist tightly. The remaining long ends of the wire will be used for attaching
9. Cut the ribbon at an angle with a sharp set of scissors
10. Arrange the loops as desired to shape your bow
