New program making it easier to go solar

Michael Allen with All Energy Solar stopped by KARE 11 at 4 to talk about solar energy and how it's the fastest growing source of energy.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Now that the days are getting longer again, Minnesotans are finally starting to see more of the sun.

Michael Allen with All Energy Solar stopped by KARE 11 at 4 to talk about solar energy and how it’s the fastest growing source of energy.

The Xcel Energy Solar Rewards program opened for applications on Jan. 1 and gives a limited number of qualifying Xcel Energy homes and businesses extra financial incentive to go solar on a first come, first serve basis. Different regions of Minnesota and Wisconsin have different rebate and incentive programs, but they aren’t guaranteed into the future, so it’s a good time to find out if your home can become a solar home. The rewards programs tend to fill up early, only accept a limited number of qualified homes, and homeowners have to have a solar audit before they can apply. So the sooner people apply, the better.
