GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Experts say proper nutrition is the key to staying healthy as we age. The YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities offers a variety of classes and programs to support seniors and their caregivers.

Fresh fruits and vegetables rich in color provide vital vitamins as well as minerals for energy and fiber for digestion. Foods high in antioxidants can boost the body’s immunity to fight disease and illness.

YMCA senior director of “Health and Wellbeing”, Jennifer Menk, and Southdale YMCA member, Terry Geppert appeared on KARE 11 to talk about the importance of good nutrition and staying active and fit.

For more information, about the YMCA’s programs and classes for ages 55+, contact your neighborhood YMCA. You may also qualify for a free membership, if your insurance includes the SilverSneakers or Silver&Fit program. Participating insurance companies include: Blue Cross and BlueShield of Minnesota, HealthPartners, Humana, Medica and UCare.
