Sawatdee rings in Thai New Year with annual celebration

MINNEAPOLIS - Sawatdee restaurants in the Twin Cities are ringing in the Thai New Year with traditional Songkran Water festival over two nights. The annual event embraces goodwill, love and compassion as the New Year begins.

Sawtdee owner Supenn Harrison and her daughters Cyndy and Jenny will host their annual Songkran celebration over two nights, Tuesday, April 17 and Wednesday, April 18. In addition to dinner specials, there will be a traditional Thai dance show starting at 7 pm each evening. Seating for dinner begins at 5:30 pm. Reservations are encouraged.

Sawatdee sweet and sour dipping sauce

2 C White Vinegar

1 1/2 C of sugar

1 1/2 C of Catsup

1T Red Chili Sauce

1 C Water

1. Combine all ingredients in bowl until well blended

2. Serve in individual dipping cups

3. Store any leftover sauce in refrigerator for future use

1 1/2 C White Vinegar

1 C of Sugar

1/2 C of fish sauce

1/2 cup crushed Peanuts

1. Mix together first 3 ingredients until dissolved

2. Sprinkle in crushed peanuts just before serving
