Pet Store Chain Fulfills Foster Kids' Holiday Wish List

For every bag of dog food or cat food that is purchased between October and the end of November, Bentley's Pet Stuff will purchase items from the organization's Therapeutic Foster Care program.

MINNEAPOLIS - Welcome to the pet store with a purpose. Bentley's Pet Stuff is a chain of pet stores with 8 locations in the Twin Cities. This holiday season, owner Lisa Senafe decided to partner up with Lutheran Social Services Therapeutic Foster Care program to make the holidays brighter for kids in need of a stable home.

For every bag of dog food or cat food that is purchased between October and the end of November, Bentley's Pet Stuff will purchase items from the organization's Therapeutic Foster Care program.

Statewide, the Lutheran Social Services' program serves children who are infants through age 17. It is common for children who enter the program come with very few personal belongings of their own.

In fact, the wish list barely has any toys or electronic games. The items are simple necessities like toothbrushes, soaps, combs, shampoo lotion, socks and winter wear items.

"We wish their wishlists was toys and that kind of stuff, but unfortunately, it’s the basic things of everyday," said Senafe.

It's a passion project for Senafe because she and her husband and Bentley's co-founder, Giovanni, have adopted two children, Sebastian, 4, and Miles, 9 months old.

"It is the most fulfilling thing we’ve ever done. We can’t imagine our lives without them," said Senafe. "As nerve-wracking and scary as it could be, having them in our lives has just been a blessing."

"Dogs and cats and children don’t always have a voice and so we love working with organizations that help give them that voice and give them a chance at life too," said Senafe.
