Search warrant issued in Huisentruit case

Documents indicate the search warrant was executed on March 20, 2017, to get GPS data on the comings and goings of a 1999 Honda Civic and a 2013 GMC 1500 pickup truck.

MASON CITY, Iowa - Records reveal that investigators executed a search warrant seeking information from two vehicles connected to a man who claimed to be the last man to see the missing TV anchor Jodi Huisentruit before she disappeared.

The report by FindJodi.com says a reader who follows Jodi's case accessed records from the Iowa Courts public file database to see that a warrant was granted. Documents indicate the search warrant was executed on March 20, 2017, to get GPS data on the comings and goings of a 1999 Honda Civic and a 2013 GMC 1500 pickup truck.

FindJodi.com says what was not available was what probable cause investigators presented to the judge to get the search warrant issued.

The person associated with the vehicles is a man who moved from Mason City to Arizona more than 20 years ago. He publicly claimed to be the last person to see Jodi before she was kidnapped from her apartment parking lot June 27, 1995. The man also told investigators he and some friends spent the weekend before water skiing with the Long Prairie native.

On Friday, KARE 11 confirmed with Mason City Police Chief Jeff Brinkley that the search warrant was related to the ongoing investigation into Huisentruit’s disappearance.

Brinkley followed up with a written statement that read, in part, “We do not have any public comment at this time about the content of the search warrant or the person(s) named in it. We would ask that anyone with information about Jodi’s disappearance contact the Mason City Police Department. Lt. Rich Jensen is our Criminal Investigations Division Supervisor and he can be reached at (641) 421-3636.”

The Cerro Gordo County Attorney told the FindJodi.com website that he couldn't comment due to the ongoing investigation, and the fact that the files associated with the search warrant have been re-sealed for another year.

Meantime, FindJodi.com co-founder Josh Benson told KARE 11 he finds hope in this tangible development.

"The hope that 23 years later, this can still be solved -- and I think that's what we're hanging onto; every shred of hope, every little nugget and every tip that comes in and that's what's going to help us get to the end of this story."
