Sports, Fair will test Thursday commute

Minnesota sports fans have a smorgasbord of options to start the last weekend of summer and commuters will have their patience tested.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota sports fans have a smorgasbord of options to start the last weekend of summer and commuters will have their patience tested.

All on Thursday night, the Twins play at Target Field, the Vikings wrap up the preseason at U.S. Bank Stadium, the Gophers football team opens at TCF Bank Stadium, and the minor-league Saints have a game at CHS Field.

The Twins, Vikings and Saints start around 7 p.m. The Gophers kick off at 8 p.m. Throw in the Minnesota State Fair and a slate of high-school football games, and there won't be many folks at home.

With the Twins, Vikings, Gophers and Saints all located along the Green Line, light rail will be a popular transportation mode. Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla says all trains will be in service, with up to 81 cars available.

Downtown Minneapolis will also be a hot spot Thursday night. "An Evening with The Revolution" is being held at First Avenue. The sold out show and tribute to Prince includes artists such as The Revolution, Wendy and Lisa, Brownmark, Dr. Fink and Bobby Z with Dez Dickerson and Andre Cymone.
