Super Bowl free concert series announced

Legendary producers and Minnesota natives Jimmy 'Jam' Harris and Terry Lewis were in Minneapolis Friday to reveal the headliners for a free 10-day concert series that will coincide with , many of whom got their start on the Twin Cities music scene.

MINNEAPOLIS - Want proof that Minnesota has left a mark on the music world? Check out the list of performers that will play a 10-day series of free shows when Super Bowl 52 comes to the Twin Cities.

Legendary producers and Minnesota natives Jimmy 'Jam' Harris and Terry Lewis were in Minneapolis Friday to reveal the headliners, many of whom got their start on the Twin Cities music scene. Among them are bands and solo artists associated with Prince: The Revolution, Morris Day and the Time, Sheila E. and New Power Generation. Many of them will unite on the Nicollet Mall stage at 8th Street Monday, January 29, for Prince Night. The show will conclude with a community sing along of 'Purple Rain.'

Other artists who forged a national reputation include The Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, Bob Mould, The Suburbs, and the Sounds of Blackness. Tony Award winner Idina Mennzel will open the free shows on Friday, January 25.
