New space for entrepreneurs in North Mpls.

N. Mpls. space looks to grow ideas

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - In the heart of North Minneapolis, a new business space will officially open its doors Monday.

Northside Economic Opportunity Network, NEON, is expanding its services to help entrepreneurs to start, expand or stabilize.

The shared working environment is located on 1107 West Broadway. Marcus Owens, who runs the nonprofit, said he knows the challenges of starting a business.

"Lack of resources such as money and getting your business model off the ground," he said.  "Plus, getting people to believe in you and your idea."

For nearly a decade, Owen held various positions with Target. He also worked in the finance industry before diving into entrepreneurship.

Owens said NEON will provide clients with services including technical assistance, back office support, connection to business opportunities, mentoring, print/copy/scan, possible investment and office space and Wi-Fi.

He hopes the new extension of the services provided by the nonprofit will spur economic growth in North Minneapolis.

"Here in North Minneapolis there has really been an epicenter for entrepreneurship over the years. We are really trying to recreate that and reinvigorate (the) community so that we can see the growth," he said.

The Northside Economic Opportunity Network (NEON) is a north Minneapolis community-based organization established in 2006. NEON's engaged community approach focuses on individual mobility as the first step toward long-term entrepreneurial success.
