ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Police in St. Cloud say a 3-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound Monday shot himself with a gun improperly stored.
The unnamed child remains hospitalized in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Officers responded to an address on the 1500 block of 15th Avenue SE just after 11:15 a.m. on Monday, for a report of a child bleeding. As they responded, they were notified that a woman had taken her 3-year-old child to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
During the investigation detectives learned the boy accidentally pulled the trigger on a gun that had been left within his reach. Police are now looking for the victim's father, who is a felon prohibited from owning a handgun. He is possibly driving a dark 2002 4-door sedan with Minnesota license plate 391XBZ.
