HOPKINS - The only thing better than a challenge between competitive people, is a challenge between competitive people for a really good cause.
Fast forward to a warehouse in Hopkins Wednesday night, where crews from five local bike shops lined up to see who could assemble the most bikes in one hour. Dubbed "FB4K-Battle of the Bike Shops", it is just one interesting new wrinkle forwarded by an organization known as Free Bikes 4 Kidz.
The organization received 125 brand new bikes as part of its holiday drive, gifts that need to be put together before they end up under the holiday trees of in-need children across the Twin Cities metro.
Those bikes are just the tip of the iceberg: On Saturday, December 1, 5,000 children will receive bikes that are new or completely refurbished by volunteers.
