Saint Paul, Minn. - A Crow Wing County man was charged on Thursday with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree assault in connection with a fatal shooting and robbery in July.

According to the Ramsey County criminal complaint, Andre Thomas Johnson, 34, shot Roy Burgess and Burgess' friend during an attempted robbery on July 6, 2012 in Saint Paul. Burgess plotted with his mother to commit the robbery because Burgess was known to carry large sums of cash.

The compaint says Burgess and his friend were leaving his house when Johnson allegedly confronted them with a rifle. Johnson shot and killed Burgess at the scene. The friend was taken to Regions Hospital and treated for gunshot wounds to his buttock and leg.

After speaking with neighbors and family members of the victims, investigators identified Johnson as the shooter. When they arrived at Johnson's home with a search warrant, they found shell casings that matched those found at the scene of the shooting.

Johnson is currently in the Ramsey County Jail. Recommended bail is $1,000,000.
