HASTINGS, Minn. - A hunter was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly fired shots at another hunter, according to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the incident started at about 2:30 p.m. They said two duck hunters got into an altercation at Spring Lake Park.
Words were exchanged as one of the hunters was putting out decoys. One of the hunters fired shots at the other, striking the side of the victim's boat. Nobody was hit by the pellets, authorities said.
Dakota County deputies worked with Minnesota State Troopers and DNR Conservation Officers on the scene. They located the suspect at about 3:45 p.m. He was taken into custody on an island where the assault occurred, officials said.
Authorities said the hunter has been arrested on charges of felony assault. The investigation will be completed by the Sheriff's Office and the case submitted to the Dakota County Attorney's Office for charging considerations.
