WOODBURY, Minn. - A group dedicated to supporting families and spouses of Minnesota police officers is turning their attention to the city of Cold Spring.
"As a police wife, you immediately start to cry," says Sherri Shanley. "But then you think, what would that family need right now."
Shanley is a volunteer with the Minnesota chapter of Wives Behind the Badge, an organization committed to the support and care for officers and their loved ones. Upon hearing the news that Officer Tom Decker was killed in the line of duty, the group immediately organzied a family fund and a toy drive.
"The response has already been amazing," says Shanley. "If this happened to us during the holidays we would likely not have time to go shopping for gifts."
Officer Decker leaves behind four young children.
Toys can be dropped off at the Woodbury Public Safety office, the Maplewood Police Department, and the third precinct office within the Minneapolis Police Department. For information on how to donate toys, visit the Wives Behind the Badge facebook page.
