APPLE VALLEY, Minn. -- A rollover accident in the south metro Sunday night claimed the life of a 26-year-old Farmington man.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the rollover happened just before 6 p.m in the northbound lanes of Highway 77 (Cedar Avenue) at McAndrews Road in Apple Valley.
Authorities say Salmon Adorno, 31, of Farmington was at the wheel of a large white van, a 2000 GMC Savana, when he veered off 77 South, hit the metal guard rail, and landed in the northbound lanes, where he was struck by the driver of a 2007 Chevy Tahoe.
The impact killed the passenger of the Savana, Inoncencio Munoz-Gutierrez, 26, of Farmington, and left Adorno in critical condition.
Jason Bruenig, 39, of Lakeville was driving the Chevy Tahoe. He received minor injuries along with his passenger, Kristi Bruenig, age 35. A seven-year-old girl inside the car was not hurt.
The impact of the crash scattered debris across the roadway and diverted traffic for hours.
Conditions were foggy at the time but it's not clear if weather played a role in the accident.
