ANOKA, Minn. - A Fridley man was sentenced to 120 days in jail Tuesday for a humiliating punishment he helped inflict on his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
Darnell Alan Landrum, age 34, was led away by law enforcement after the sentencing to begin serving his time immediately.
Landrum and his wife Stephanie Ann Broten each pleaded guilty to one count of malicious punishment of a child after an incident last spring. Police were called to their home after neighbors reported a girl wearing a diaper and a tank top running up and down the street and crying hysterically.
The child's head had also been shaved.
Landrum and Broten told police they were punishing the girl for bringing home bad grades.
In addition to the 120-day jail sentence, the judge imposed another 245 days behind bars that will remain stayed if Landrum completes his probation successfully. He must also perform 30 hours of community service, pay a $300 fine and complete two years probation.
Conditions of Landrum's probation include that he can have no contact with the victim and remain law-abiding.
Broten received a 90-day jail sentence in mid-November.
