MAPLE GROVE, Minn. - The school day routine was a bit more adventurous for students at one building in Maple Grove, as they tried to make it through the day without power.
A post on the Osseo Area Public Schools Facebook page Wednesday morning said Fernbrook Elementary was without power. A district spokesperson said a car ran into a junction box that connects to the transformer that powers the building.
Electricity was restored around 1:30 p.m., just two hours or so before students go home for the day.
School officials say they planned for situations like this, and add that the school does have water service and natural light.
Students were served cold lunch instead of hot.
One major concern was that the phone system at Fernbrook Elementary does not operate without electricity.
