ST. PAUL, Minn. - Police say officers were involved in the shooting of a suspect who had robbed the Kowalski's Market in St. Paul Monday morning.

Authorities received a robbery call from the Kowalski's Market located at 1261 Grand Avenue around 8:30 a.m.  By the time officers arrived on the scene, the lone suspect had fled on foot.

Shots were fired a short time after a chase with officers began. The suspect was caught in the area of Ayd Mill Road and is being treated at Regions Hospital.

Sgt. Paul Paulos said the suspect is in "serious" condition but says anyone with a gunshot wound is listed in serious until their condition is determined by medical staff.

The officers involved in the incident were not injured and no one in the store was injured.

Investigators are interviewing witnesses at this time.
