TURTLE LAKE, Wis. - Dozens of employees and residents were evacuated after reports of a chemical spill in Turtle Lake, Wisc. Thursday.
WEAU TV reports that 60 people were evacuated after the spill at Sanmina-SCI Enclosure Systems just after 11 a.m. Nearly a dozen of them were suffering from respiratory issues. Nine of the company's workers were taken to an area hospital.
Authorities responding to the spill evacuated the Samina building plus two more nearby, one of which is a senior center. Displaced residents were taken to the gym at Turtle Lake School.
Hazmat crews from a number of local departments are on the scene while sheriff's investigators try to determine exactly what chemical or chemicals were spilled. Crews were working on airing out the plant Thursday afternoon.
The Samina-SCI website describes the company as a manufacturer of plastic products and enclosure systems.
