ST. PAUL, Minn. - The first flu-related death in the state was reported last week, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
Officials said the man who died was in his 60s and that he had underlying health conditions.
The department also reports that 65 patients were hospitalized due to the flu, more than twice the number from the previous week.
There were also 47 school outbreaks and six care center outbreaks. The numbers show a significant rise in flu cases in the latest report.
It's not too late to get your annual influenza vaccine.
Officials also remind everyone that good hand washing and hygiene practices, such as covering your cough, can prevent influenza and other respiratory illnesses that are prevalent this time of year.
