STILLWATER, Minn. -- It's not hard to miss the house on the corner of North Owen Street in Stillwater. It is the House of Santa after all.
It all started when Lois Kohns got a Santa figurine when she was five years old. Then she got more for Christmas, then Mother's Day, then her birthdays.
Seventy years later Lois has almost 10,000 Santa figures.
"Two hundred to 300 hundred I probably bought alone for her," Kathy Kohns, Lois' daughter said.
Each winter Lois opens her home for tours. There are 21 rooms filled with Santa. Each tour lasts for two hours. But this year will be the last.
"After 29 years it's time to quit, "Lois said.
At 78 years old she said she's ready for something new.
"Read a good story. I haven't read a good book for a long time," she said.
But she hopes the old Santas will keep bringing people joy.
"I enjoy Christmas and I enjoy seeing people being happy remembering seeing things they had as a child," she said.
She's not sure what will happen to all the Santas just yet though she said she may auction some off.
Tours of the House of Santa will continue until January 9, 2013. Admission is $5 a person. To schedule a tour you must make an appointment by calling 651-439-0066.
