MINNEAPOLIS - A family of 10 was displaced after fire tore through their north Minneapolis home Monday morning.
The flames were first noticed by a family friend while everyone else was sleeping.
"Something just told me to look in the kitchen. I thought the light was on," says Chiquite Hudson. "I looked again and it was a fire, so I ran through the house."
For Dorice Jackson, who was sleeping upstairs, the heavy smoke meant escaping downstairs was not an option.
"Me and my baby daddy had to jump out the window. No clothes on, no nothing," says Jackson.
It was a close call with devastating consequences.
All of the family's belongings are charred or enveloped in ash.
"We had Christmas toys wrapped," says Jackson. "Everything is just gone. Look at our house. We don't have nothing."
The family is being assisted by the Red Cross while they get back on their feet.
