MANKATO, Minn.  - About 150 Native Americans are expected in Mankato to honor the 38 Dakota men who were hanged in 1862.

KTOE radio reports a new monument will be dedicated at Reconciliation Park in Mankato in a Wednesday morning ceremony. It's believed to be the location where the executions took place at the order of President Abraham Lincoln, who spared more than 100 other Dakota lives.

The hangings were the order of Minnesota Gov. Alexander Ramsey who had called for the extermination of the Sioux Indians of Minnesota.

Some of the Native Americans are arriving on horseback from a two week ride that began on Dec. 10 in South Dakota.
