MINNEAPOLIS -  City crews have restored water service for all but six buildings following Thursday's water main break in downtown Minneapolis, and most streets are now open to traffic.

The northbound lanes of Hennepin Avenue are open. Southbound traffic coming into downtown on the Hennepin Avenue Bridge will continue to be detoured to 1st Avenue after crossing the bridge, since the southbound lanes of Hennepin Avenue will remain closed from Washington Avenue to 1st Street.

All bars and restaurants have water service restored. The remaining customers in the half dozen buildings without water should have normal service restored by Sunday, after the water main is repaired and the water is tested.

City crews have been working on fixing the 36-inch water main that was struck and ruptured by a private contractor at a building site at Hennepin Avenue and 2nd Street on Thursday. Again, there are about six buildings along three blocks of 2nd Avenue North that are without water service.

Minneapolis residents who are still experiencing water pressure or discoloration issues that aren't resolved after letting their water run for a short time should report those issues to 311 or online.
