MAPLE GROVE, Minn. - Thirteen members of the Maple Grove boys high school hockey team are suspended following an off-ice incident in December.
Officials at Maple Grove Senior High School officials were informed on Monday of the alleged incident, which took place in mid-December at a private home and involved multiple student athletes.
Osseo Area Public Schools spokesperson Barb Olson says school officials conducted a thorough investigation and consulted with the Minnesota State High School League and the Maple Grove Police Department.
Investigators determined that the incident constituted a violation of Minnesota State High School League rules, and the decision to suspend the players was made.
Olson says due to data privacy laws no details on the incident will be released by the district.
While most of the athletes will miss two games, Maple Grove head coach Gary Stefano says a couple could be suspended for four.
The number of players suspended represents more than half of the team's published varsity roster.
