MAPLE GROVE, Minn. - An overnight standoff ended peacefully and the gunman was taken into custody after an 11-hour standoff ended Saturday morning, according to authorities.
Maple Grove Police say they were called to the 7000 block of Wedgewood Court around 2:14 p.m. Friday on a welfare check of a 54-year-old man, who family believed to be suicidal.
Police entered the man's home and found him in a bedroom with a shotgun to his head. Police left the house and Maple Grove and Plymouth SWAT arrived to evacuate neighbors. Police say they tried to communicate with the man, but he refused and barricaded himself inside his home.
After 11 hours, the man finally surrendered and was taken to North Memorial for evaluation. Charges are pending.
