COON RAPIDS, Minn. - Residents of one city block in Coon Rapids are without water and sewer service after a major water main break late Monday.
Crews began repairs on the 10-inch cast iron pipe running underground near 111th Lane and Hanson Boulevard shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday, but cleanup for residents will also be a serious matter. Up to seven homes suffered significant sewage backups after water pouring from the main flooded the neighborhood's sewer system.
Debris then got swept into a manhole.. creating the sewage backup.
No definitive word at this time on what caused the water main break, but our recent warmup is a likely culprit as the freeze/thaw cycle causes shifts in the ground that can break pipes.
