MINNEAPOLIS - A teenage suspect in the Minneapolis shooting death of a child has pleaded guilty.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says 17-year-old Stephon Shannon pleaded guilty late Friday afternoon in the shooting of 5-year-old Nizzel George.

Nizzel was shot and killed as he slept on a couch in the living room of his grandmother's north Minneapolis home on June 26, 2012. Shannon told police he wanted revenge for a shooting that happened the night before.

Shannon pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional murder for the benefit of a gang.

He's expected to be sentenced Tuesday.

An unnamed 15-year-old has also been charged. Prosecutors are fighting to try him as an adult.
