GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Ross Sveback, famous cake maker and lifestyle expert, joined KARE Saturday to share one of his yummy recipes.

"Burning Love" is a Norwegian comfort food that serves as a main dish with mashed potatoes, infused with butter, vegetable stock, buttermilk, and cheese, and then topped with bacon, mushrooms, and chives.

Sveback mentions that the dish can come in many variations and can include peas, apples, or even broccoli. Here is Sveback's recipe for burning love:

  • 2 lb. thick-cut bacon
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 16 oz. sliced mushrooms
  • 5 lbs. Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 2 cups vegetable stock
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups mozzarella/provolone cheese
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • Chives, for garnish

In a large skillet cook bacon until crispy, remove bacon and set aside.  Drain all but 2 tbsp. of the bacon grease.  Add onions and mushrooms, sauté until onions are While the bacon is frying, cook potatoes in pressure cooker for six minutes, then mash with butter, vegetable stock and cheese - potatoes should be loose, not super stiff. Pool potatoes in center of a plate and top with onion-mushroom mixture, followed by crumbled bacon, then garnish with a sprinkling of chives. Enjoy!
