  • Snow adding injury to insult in Twin Cities

ST. BONIFACIOUS, Minn. - It may seem hard to believe, but on this exact day a year ago, we weren't talking about snow, but the lack of it, and get this, trees were actually beginning to bud.

The pictures taken on Feb. 11, 2012 are proof.

Trees all over the Twin Cities were beginning to bud due to the unusually warm temperatures and dry conditions.

At that time, it was so dry much of the state was in a moderate drought. While it may seem like these latest snowfalls have helped, experts say they really haven't.

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, much of the state is now in a severe drought and the southwest portion of the state is in extreme drought.

For the sake of snowmobilers, at least this year has brought a little bit of snow to enjoy.

"All in all, less than I hoped for, but better than last year. You got to look at the positive," said snowmobiler Steve Fike.
